Welcome

At the start of the academic year we host a number of welcome lunches. These take place after the morning service and are a great way to get fed with a tasty lunch, meet some of the community, and find out a bit more about the church.

If you are a student looking for a church community to belong to, then one of the student welcome team would love to buy you a coffee and get to know you better. Come and introduce yourself, or contact us.

Gerrard Street @ 6.30

GerrardStreet@6.30 is our weekly gathering for the young adult community at Gerrard Street. We meet at the church at 6.30pm on Sunday evenings.

We eat together. We hear the Bible taught together. We sing and pray together.
You don't need to have any background in Christianity to come along. Come join us for food and see what we're about. You can join in with as much or as little as you feel comfortable with.

Student Getaway

The Student weekend is a highlight every year!
It's a chance to get away together, eat lots of great food, have a laugh, and to get stuck into one Bible topic together. From worship evening, to crazy games... It is always a fantastic time of growth and fellowship.

The next Weekend Away will be  early next year.

Church Family

While it is great to have our own events, it is important to us that students and young adults take a full part in the life of the wider church family. That means faithfully attending the Sunday Morning Service and signing up for a Connect Group. These are the Big 2 at Gerrard Street and we encourage everyone to make them a priority. You can read more about them on other pages on this site.

Adopt a Student

There is also the opportunity to be adopted by a person, couple or family from the church for your time in Aberdeen.

They will regularly feed you, and look out for you, during your time with us.

New Horizon is our ministry for those over 55 and runs as one of our Connect Groups. It is for the young at heart and gives our Seniors a great time of fellowship while studying the Bible together.

Seniors are involved heavily in the life of the church from looking after our building to providing the cakes and coffee at Cafe Church. 

If you are a Senior, you will be made very welcome at Gerrard Street

Our youth ministry exists to introduce young people to Jesus, to connect them with other Christians, to challenge them to grow in their faith and to encourage them to worship and serve God.

Our team of youth leaders is passionately committed to telling “the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might, and the wonders that he has done.” (Psalm 78:4) Each gathering is slightly different but generally we try to have as much fun as possible while getting to know Jesus. Wide games, overnights, meeting with other church groups, Bible study and more!

CREED (P7 – S3)

Creed meets in the Youth Centre during the Sunday morning sermon to study the Bible together and to understand the basics of the Christian faith. Each term Creed reads a different book of the Bible, or looks at one Bible theme as it develops across the storyline of the Bible. They also enjoy meeting up at other times for socials throughout the year.

FUSION (S1-S6)

Fusion meets on Friday nights at 7pm. It is a place for hair-brained games, Nerf wars, computer games - it’s always a lot of fun. It is also a chance to really get to know one another and develop as a community of young people. We also love to bring the Bible to life through engaging and relevant teaching.

We realise that children and young people are an important part of the church today and the leaders of the church of tomorrow.

Every Sunday we have dedicated activities for children and young people, or hold seasonal family all-age worship services. After some sung worship and notices in the main morning service, children head out to their groups where they enjoy interactive and age appropriate Bible teaching with our children's ministry teams.

Creche

Our creche is for children from birth up to their third birthday. It is open throughout our morning service from 11am – 12.30pm. Children are cared for by our dedicated team who aim to make this an enjoyable and fun time for the kids. We believe that even very young children can learn and so we aim to sensitively share something of Jesus’s love for the kids.

Little Lighthouse

Children 3 – 5 years old are catered for in this fun and interactive group. It runs during the Sunday morning service from around 11.20am – 12.30pm in the dedicated Little Lighthouse room.

Lighthouse

Lighthouse is the children’s group at Gerrard Street for primary aged children (P1-P6). It runs on a Sunday morning from around 11.20am – 12.30pm in the Hall and Youth Centre. 

Our vision for Lighthouse is to see all young people develop their faith and to grow to have a living relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ.  Lighthouse is a family where we deeply care for one another and we pray for each other every week.  It is a space for young people to ask questions and explore what their faith really means.

Creed

Young people from P7-S3 are welcome to join Creed. More details of this can be found in the Youth page.

Unlike many churches where small groups never change, our Connect Groups run on a season-long basis. 

• Autumn: September to November
• Spring: January to March
• Summer: May to July

You can sign up for one in our three sign-up months and then the group will last for 7-12 weeks. The great advantage of this is that you will get to know lots of people quite quickly as each group you sign up for will have people you haven’t met yet. Many great friendships have developed through meeting in a Connect Group.

Our purpose is to glorify God through the growth of his Kingdom. We see this happening as we help one another be an authentic community of Jesus-followers who take seriously our call to reach those who don’t know Jesus yet.

The focus of our community is on bringing together the truth of God’s message which we read in the Bible, with the power of God’s Spirit working in our lives so that we can be effective in God’s Mission to Aberdeen and beyond.

This Mission is to share the good news about God’s love and grace to all people and all nations. Therefore we are delighted to be a multinational community of all ages and all backgrounds who celebrate our unity in Christ: everyone is welcome!

We say to all new people coming to the church that if you want to get involved quickly and fully then please do these: Come and worship with us on Sunday mornings and join and attend a Connect Group. There are many more things going on, but these are the two key ways you can quickly feel part of the church.

We are committed to World Mission, and are honoured to support members of our community working in several different countries throughout the world as missionaries.

We are a corporate member of the Evangelical Alliance and are members of the Baptist Union of Scotland.

We meet in our church building on Gerrard Street each Sunday at 11.00am.

It can be daunting going to a new church for the first time or after having been away for a while. We try to make our Sunday services as welcoming as we can.

What should I expect?

Informality

Our services are quite informal so you can sit wherever you want to and wear whatever you want.

Warm and welcoming

We aim to be a welcoming place where folks coming for the first time will feel comfortable. We are all glad you have come. In the unlikely event that you sit beside someone who doesn’t talk to you, maybe they are just shy or having a bad day. Or maybe they are new like you. Don’t be afraid to make the first move.

Sung Worship

We love to sing at Gerrard Street and we usually sing a mixture of older hymns and more modern songs. Our worship is led by a band that usually includes guitars, keyboards, drums and voices.

Preaching

We also love to hear God’s word preached and there is usually a sermon that lasts somewhere between 25 and 35 minutes. Our preaching style is usually “expository” which simply means that we start with a passage from the Bible and then explain what it means and how it applies to us today.

The Lord’s Supper or Communion

On the first Sunday in the month, we take bread and wine, elements that symbolise the death of Jesus for us. If you are already a believer, you can join with us freely. If you are not a believer yet, please don’t be embarrassed and simply pass the elements on to the next person.

Collection

During the service, members of the church will have an opportunity to give money (though many will do this directly through bank transfers). If you are a newcomer, please do not feel obliged to give – this is for people who call Gerrard Street their home church.

Tea and Coffee

Our services usually last 80-90 minutes and when it finishes, we serve good quality tea and coffee in the East Wing where you can meet folks over a refreshment.

What’s on for children and teenagers?

Children and teenagers are an important part of our church family. They participate in the first part of our worship at Gerrard Street, before going to their age-specific groups.

Our creche is for 0-2 year olds, 3-5 year olds head over to Little Lighthouse, kids in P1-P6 have Lighthouse and young folk in P7-S3 go to Creed.

Parking and Transportation

Although we are located in the heart of Aberdeen, parking is free on the street until 1.00pm on Sundays. Parking on single yellow lines is free all day.

In addition, there is a council owned car park that they kindly allow us to use on Sundays. When you turn into Gerrard Street, take the first right and park anywhere in this car park.
